Doug Macrae is a singer/songwriter/guitarist that grew up in South Florida among the surf culture and local bluegrass jam circles. Being heavily influenced by the Grateful Dead and the Jam Band scene, Doug eventually moved out west to California, forming several different musical outfits to write for and perform with.
When Doug picks up an acoustic guitar he naturally leans toward a flat-picking, bluegrass approach to writing and performing. Coming from the oceanside, he can't help but to mix in a Jack Johnson type, beach style of flavor. A combination that is reflected on all of his solo albums and singles that have been released to date.
Following his love of performing bluegrass music, Doug went on to write and compose songs that were specifically designed for the traditional instrumentation of Banjo, Mandolin, Dobro, Fiddle, Stand-Up Bass and Guitar. With himself at the helm on lead vocals, he created his very own bluegrass outlet fittingly called:
Doug Macrae and the Big Grass Tradition.
"There is an enormous amount of joy that comes with being a part of a full, six-piece bluegrass band."
-Doug Macrae
With an electric guitar in his hands, Doug leaves no holds barred and highlights his skill of the fretboard when writing music in this direction. Producing a rocking mixture of formidable guitar solos with passionate vocals, Doug found the perfect way to combine his influences of Bob Marley, Sublime, The Grateful Dead and Phish with his Surf Grass/Rockabilly/Reggae/Jam Band called:
Sovereign Vine.
"I wouldn't be who I am today without my dad, who turned me on to the Grateful Dead and my brother, who turned me on to Sublime. I miss them both every day."
-Doug Macrae
Here I sit and ponder upon my throne in the place I call home and no one can change that. No one can take it away.
The Universal Mind is at hand so I pray to God to give me certainty. You know I'll always find my way home.
If I could be anywhere in the world right now this is where I'd be because this is where He wants me. So now I'll sing to you.
Do You Love
You can't run and hide from anything inside but at least no one can touch that. No one can take it away.
If you try you might find it may hurt some. That's why it's inside, or, for your thoughts alone.
And again in the end I will shine on you and you will shine on me.
So now I sing to you.
Do You Love

It can be so hard for one and one to agree.
We've got to stop fussin' and fightin' though, I'm begging you please.
There's strength in unity. There's weakness in division.
Just look at all your elders and then think of the children.
Now Love
No more war. No more destruction.
How much blood must spill before we learn the lesson?
It's okay to give.
We don't have to take.
Why have enemies with all of these friends we can make?
Love One Another
All the different people from all the different Nations, look inside yourself now, then be the demonstration.
Love One Another
